Re-working of a period house in Dun Laoghaire

The house is a protected structure and this project combines an internal re-configuration and an extension to the rear. The basement areas had previously been subdivided into a number of small rooms and the house had no real connection with the garden. Our project opens up the basement to enable open plan living and in turn a direct connection with the garden. A new double height void is created above the kitchen to connect the basement to the upper floors of the house. The new two storey hanging extension to the rear is essentially a modern bay window. This opens up the back of the house to light and views to the garden. The remainder of the house, reception rooms and bedrooms are restored to create a comfortable and functional contemporary home.
