This is the restoration and re-working of a large house in Dun Laoghaire, Co.Dublin.
The house is a protected structure and this project combines conservation work with a new small extension to the rear.
In the existing house the basement areas had previously been subdivided into a number of small rooms which cut off all connections between the house and the garden. Our project opens up the basement to enable open plan modern living. The basement rooms open directly to the garden and a new double height void above the kitchen connects the basement to a new study area and the upper floors of the house.
The main reception rooms and upper bedrooms are being restored with care to ensure the existing original features are retained. The new two storey hanging extension is essentially a modern version of a bay window which opens up the back of the house to light and views to the garden.
