Extension of a Victorian house.
This project is a restoration and extension of a Victorian house. The house is located mid terrace on the north side of Dartmouth square and is a protected structure. The brief for the restoration was to provide the services that period houses often lack: a kitchen, utility, bathroom and small home office. The challenge was to provide this additional space without compromising the elegance of the existing house. The main reception rooms were restored and a three storey extension was built to the rear. The form of the extension is composed to enable natural light to enter into the house. Its width reduces as it rises both to avoid existing windows and to form new openings.
