The Lake House

New house in Special Area of Conservation

This is a proposal for a new tailor made home on a spectacular site by the sea in Howth.

The site is located on the north side of Howth peninsula, a protected SAC, a special area of conservation.

The site is bounded by the dunes of Burrow beach to the north and contains a large lake to the south.

There are wonderful views of Lambay Island and Ireland’s Eye.

The challenge was to create a house that availed of this spectacular site while also being discreet and sensitive to the setting.

The design of the house relates to the path of the sun from east through south to west.

The form of the house is long due the restricted site, it is cranked to avail of the views and it is pitched to maximise sunlight.

The house is elevated as conditioned by the Council’s flooding policy.

The result is a raised house with great views and lots of sunlight.
