This is an award winning project the north side of Dartmouth Square in Dublin. The extension is three stories tall and it contains a kitchen / utility on the ground floor, an office on the first and a bathroom on the second. The maintenance and enhancement of natural light is integral to the project. The form of the extension is composed to avoid the existing openings in, and the existing views from, the rear façade of the house. It avoids darkening the various rooms behind. Openings were formed in the roofs of the extension to top light the spaces within. The size and form of the extension on the first and second floor reduces to ensure a minimum impact on the original. The main reception rooms are unaffected.
