Refurbishment & extension of a listed house.
This is a renovation & extension of a period house in Rathmines. The strategy was to restore the areas of the house of architectural significance & to consolidate these areas by providing services of bathrooms, dressers, hot presses and utilities. These services are contained in a new three storey volume to the side. A two storey six meter high sun room was also created. Thsi faces south & opens up the rear of the house to the sun. It connects the previously dark garden level to the garden. The kitchen/family area is located here, at the center of the home. The detailing of the overhang allows the low sun to heat the space in the winter and provides screening from the sun in the summer.
