Open House Special

The Sunday Times, 25 September 2011

This year's Open House shows that someone who is trained in design can find solutions that work with tight budgets and small spaces.

Aughey O’Flaherty Architects designed a recently completed house on Mount Anville Road in Dublin 14. The client wanted the home to be energy efficient, so there are solar panels to collect energy for hot water and a heat recovery ventilation system to recycle heat generated within the house.

“The internal layout is a response to the path of the sun “, says Joseph MacMahon, an architect at the practice.

“On the lower level, the kitchen, dining and living spaces are to the east, south and west. A double-height circulation hall connects the (two) levels and encourages natural stack effect ventilation. This space is top lit with a continuous rooflight which allows daylight to illuminate the hall. This is an A-rated home, which is comfortable, bright and beautifully crafted.”

Now, wouldn’t you like to have a look inside?
