Cong, A House
New house in scenic amenity area
This project is a new house on a forested site outside the village of Cong in Co. Galway. The site is sloped, has a southerly aspect & overlooks Lough Corrib. The form of the house is generated by the contours of the ground into which it sits. The materials used are stone, timber & copper. The heavy north walls are made with a local Silurian limestone in random rubble courses. The timber panels & windows are made & framed in iroko on the lighter south side. Glulam timbers are used, they order the spaces & relate to the rhythm of the trees outside.
